Cookie Policy

Every cookie ivillageafrica.com sets, what it is for, how long it lasts and how to clear it.

Last updated 20 September 2026

Short version: We set five cookies and every one of them is needed to run the shop: your basket, your sign-in, your language, the page cache and the cookie notice you dismissed. There is no analytics, no advertising and no tracking on this site.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small pieces of text a website asks your browser to keep and send back on your next request. They are how a website remembers that the basket you filled a minute ago is yours.

A cookie is called strictly necessary when the shop cannot do what you asked without it — hold a basket, keep you signed in, take you through checkout. Everything below is in that category.

2. Cookies we set

This is the complete list. Nothing else is set by us.

CookieWhat it doesHow long it lastsStrictly necessary
_medusa_cart_idHolds the reference to your basket, so the items you add are still there when you move between pages or come back later. Cannot be read by page scripts.7 daysYes
_medusa_jwtYour sign-in token. It is what keeps you signed in to your account and lets you see your own orders and addresses. Cannot be read by page scripts.7 daysYes
_medusa_localeRemembers the language you chose, so the shop opens in it next time.1 yearYes
_medusa_cache_idA random identifier with nothing personal in it. It labels the pages our server has already prepared for your session so they can be reused and updated correctly.24 hoursYes
iv_cookie_noticeRecords that you have seen and dismissed the cookie notice, so it is not shown to you again.12 monthsYes

The basket and sign-in cookies are marked HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax, which means no script on the page can read them, and your browser never sends them to another website. Lax lets your browser hand them back to us when you return from paying — without it, your basket would look empty the moment you came back from the payment page.

3. Other things kept in your browser

Alongside the cookie, your choice on the cookie notice is also written to your browser's local storage under the key iv_cookie_notice, so the notice stays dismissed even if the cookie is lost. It stays until you clear your browsing data.

We store nothing else in local storage or session storage.

4. What we do not use

The shop runs no analytics, no advertising tags and no third-party tracking scripts. To be specific, we do not use:

  • Google Analytics, or any other analytics or measurement tool;
  • advertising or remarketing pixels, including those of any social network;
  • cross-site tracking or advertising profiles; or
  • session-recording, heatmap or A/B-testing tools.

We do not sell or share information about your browsing with anyone.

5. Third parties

Two other parties are involved in running this site, and neither of them tracks you for advertising.

Paystack

When you pay, you are taken to Paystack's own payment page to enter your card or Mobile Money details. That page is Paystack's, and any cookies it sets are set by Paystack under its own terms. Once payment is finished you are returned to us. See our Privacy Policy for what we receive back.

Cloudflare

Our site sits behind Cloudflare for security and speed. Cloudflare may set its own short-lived cookie when it needs to check that a request is coming from a person rather than an automated script. That is a security measure, not advertising, and it is outside our control.

7. How to clear or block cookies

Every browser lets you see, delete and block cookies. To remove ours, clear the cookies for ivillageafrica.com:

Clearing our cookies signs you out, empties your basket and brings the cookie notice back. If you block cookies for this site altogether, sign-in, the basket and checkout will not work.

Browsers also offer a private or incognito window, which throws away all cookies when you close it.

8. Changes to this Policy

We will update this Policy whenever the cookies the shop sets change, and the table above is meant to match the software exactly. If you think it does not, please tell us.
